It'd do the same job of keeping the mouth closed. By "string", I meant more like a band of some sort. A fitting mouthpiece also does the job well. The goal is to keep the mouth closed and breathe through the nose instead. $80 is ridonculous!

Oh, I guess you were being sarcastic instead. But anyway, a fitting mouthpiece works great, because it not only reduces/eliminates snoring, it prevents the grinding of teeth as well.
