Da Vinci code....
Every now and then a book comes along that gets read by all the people who read one book a year. I go to lunch and see all these people in business suits who would ordinarily be reading the Wall Street Journal or chatting on a cell phone, and instead they are carrying around this book. I'm not saying it's bad... I haven't read it, and I very well might give it a try. I'm just saying it's weird how something like this propagates.
I usually read all manner of forgotten novels that no one else cares about. I can never have a conversation about "current fiction" with normal people.

I enjoyed all of Dan Brown's books. I think "Digital Fortress" is his weakest book, but still an enjoyable read. If you plan on reading "Da Vinci Code" I suggest start with the prequel "Angels and Demons" first- I actually enjoyed that one more and it helped knowing Dan Brown's style before continuing with his others. "Deception Point" is a good conspiracy book if you're interested in those types.
I've read all his books too, and I loved the Da Vinci Code. He throws all these neat factoids in there about how religion evolved/mutated over the years.
Another (non-fiction) book I love is Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark", which goes over a lot of superstition and religious ideas.
