Damn I hate when people don't say thank you!
Just got back from lunch and as I walked into our office building, I had 2 women and a guy walking behind me...it was obvious they work together... As I approached the door, I made sure to hold it wide open...the man stepped forward and grabbed the door...but didn't say "THANK YOU." I then walked over to the elevator and when it opened, I held it as they "casually" walked up and then into the elevator... Again...nothing was said. I pushed my floor (2) and they pushed theirs (5). Absolute silence as we went up...the moment I got out, the man said, "Well, we have...blah...blah..."
I know that it's awkward to have elevator conversations...but c'mon...we are professional folks...a simple "thank you" for the door and maybe even for the elevator was in order.
Bastards!

People are complete idiots nowadays.
It happens to me all the time, I try and be courteous but dont get anything in return. It's just the way society is, people are selfish and just care about themselves.
Heres a funny story that happened to me several months back: Im walking into work (hospital) like usual and have 2 women behind me, 1 happens to be the nursing director, and the other the director of business office. Im using my keys to open the door as they stand behind my waiting quiet as hell. I finally open the door, HOLD it open as they walk in, NO thanks, NOTHING. They just walk in like I'm invisible.
So I must have eaten my wheaties that day, because I snapped, being fed up with these selfish bastards. I said excuse me, they turned around, "I would appreciate it if the same courtesy is given to me as I gave to you holding the door open." They just looked shocked and stuttered, "oh we're so sorry, but thank you so much". I was like yeah whatever you fake ****s. Dont let me catch you slippin outside of work.

^LMAO!!
Trust me...I wanted to say something...but you just never know nowadays who people are, etc... Next thing I know, the guy I just snarled at is having lunch with my boss.
It's just amazing to me that people can be so nonchalant about it... I can't...
My momma raised me better!

Yeah likewise, my dad was a big advocate of being courteous, when i was younger he caught me a few times not saying "thanks" and smacked the back of my head in front of everyone. Pretty embarassing. But I made me think of not screwing up again.
Same thing here!
Our building has 3 or 4 different companies that have different sections. Our company and the one directly below us uses key cards to access the building. The main entrance to the building and our main entrance are both unlocked during business hours. But the side entrance you have to use the key card.
Now I am the same way, hold the doors for strangers, and on the rare occasion someone holds it for me, I make an effort to get there quickly and say thank you. On the other hand, there have been numerous times I have been asked by people from the other company if they can see my ID. This is the only time that I am really rude to them. I always tell them no and just walk past them.
My favorite though has been I showed up one morning and was walking to the side entrance. There was another lady coming towards the entrance (rather briskly) from the other side of the parking lot. She got to the door first and I was making my way up the steps. There are a total of 6 steps to get to the door. I had thought that she would hold the door for me.
I was wrong. Without even glancing my way, she opened it just barely enough for her to slide through and then quickly closed the door. I stood there for a moment, got my key card out and opened the door. At this point, we each have separate doors to go into. She was fumbling with the code and kept getting it wrong.I swiped my key card and opened my door. I was going to just walk upstairs, but I decided to thank her. I looked back around the corner and said thanks for holding the door back there. Have a good day.
I was still trying to be polite, but with a little sarcastic tone. I don't know what she was scared of me. While she might not have been taller than me, she certainly was bigger.
