damn ipods
so i just got a new ipod 60gb, im trying to work out how to use it properly, managed to get songs and photos onto it, but videos are really pissing me off. i cant work it out
anyway, i have it set to update manually, as i use a variety of computers with itunes on them, so im on a laptop, and im importing cds, and i leave it for a while, and when i come back, i find that it has updated and i have basically lost about 300 songs. those 300 songs are on another computer. why would it do this???
i want to punch the makers of ipod in the face, i thought these things were supposed to be user friendly
anyone else got ipod peeves

i don't know if this will help, but i believe you have to set all the computers you use it on to update manually. if you have only done that once on one computer you may have to do it to the others you use the ipod on. not sure if that helps.
oh... and for the record.... things can be intuitive, but not obvious. If obvious/intuitive were interchangeable as words, then why is there such a big emphasis on UI in technology in general?
The iPod can be extremely user friendly if set up correctly. Whatever computer you use to keep all your mp3s and videos in iTunes should be the same one you use to update your iPod with, if you have it set to auto update. If you switch between a desktop PC and laptop or multiple computers in your house like I have, I suggest networking all of your PCs together and keep all of your media on a single PC acting as your media server. This way you can update your iPod from iTunes from any PC.

Apple has set up iTunes so that you can't download all the songs on your computer, then download all the songs from you friend's computer, and your brother's computer, and your other friend's computer, etc.
Mav is correct, you need to have all your songs in a single source.

You might want to try reading the user manual too. These things aren't hard to use if you have the basics down. If you think using an iPod is hard, try some of the other mp3 players out there and gain some perspective.
