Default Damnit, my PS2 died. I wanted to get som GT3 on....

My PS2 (2+ years old) has stopped reading most games and DVDs. I even went so far as to take it apart and wipe the laser lense off with alcohol and and a lens wipe. No go. Any suggestions?

it probably has a waranty. But then again, you probably voided that by opening it up.

Follow the instructions posted here on adjusting the lens distance with the white gear...

Although I HIGHLY recommend against their advice for vacuuming out your PS2.

Vacuums create HIGH amounts of static electricity - which is very bad for your PS2s electronics.

you probably would have to replace ur laser, which is approximately $60 Canadian. Not sure what the price is for a replacement in the US

My warranty was already well past. That's why I opened it up... no loss.

Reminds me of having to blow on the old NES cartridges. On the bad side, there's no simple fix like that, on the good side, I won't nearly black out every time I want to play a game.

PS2's are notorious for sucking up lots of dust,

I say to fix that problem, get an XBOX

j/k

just got on and crack that thing open, unless you want to get the runaround from Sony's warrantee....

I used the procedure outlined here PS2 about 1 month ago and it seems to work just fine except on my GTA Vice City, it sometimes freezes up. It's worth a shot before you drop $180 on a new system.
