it would be very cool to have a face-off kind of deal... I mean, talk man to man before going to war, right?

A reporter from CNN interviewed Saddam 10 years ago during the gulf war. The Iraqis are more than happy to let an American reporter come talk to Saddam because it gives them a chance to spread their propaganda. Just because Dan Rather can talk to Saddam doesn't mean that a navy SEAL team could just walk up to him on the street.

This is a little strange...I thought Saddam was not a religious man, yet he keeps talking about God and Allah, and he says things like "Now it is time for me to pray."

Love the way he dodged the question about whether or not he approved of the attacks on 9/11

Bush has nothing to gain by debating Hussain. How can you debate with a murdering, lying, genocidal dictator?

I can see how it would go.

Bush : " Do you have weapons of mass destruction or not?"
Saddam: " No we do not"

Bush: "But we have these satellite photos and spy reports here showing you do"
Saddam: "Those are all fabrications by the Great Satan. Allah will prove us right"

It becomes a "Yes you do - No I don't you imperialist pig argument" very quickly.

Here's hoping we hit them soon before some Al-Queda wacko lights off one of Saddam's nerve gas bombs (he swears he doesn't have) in Times Square. The everyone would be screaming why the hell didn't we attack when we knew he had them all along.

Bush can't make the liberal opposition happy either way. Attack now and be the Cowboy, don't attack and be the idiot later when some terrorist we could have stopped kills 10,000 Americans.

So killing hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of innocent Iraqis is better than a *possibility* of an attack that might end the lives of 10,000 Americans?

Not only that, but I think we're all forgetting that this war will set a precedent that will result in enormous consequences. If we go to war with a country because it poses a threat to us, other nations all over the globe can simply point the finger at the 2003 Gulf War and say "America did it, why can't we?". India & Pakistan, Israel & Palestine, and North Korea & Japan... I can't predict the future but, chances are, the shit will hit the fan.

I'll just get off my soapbox now before another moderator comes in here and decides this thread is too political.

I think you exaggerate the civilian casualties quite a bit but the answer to your question is...

Yes. I am an American and I watch out for Americans first. Al-Queda killed how many innocent Americans 9/11? Saddam would gas our kids in a second if he could. You can't play nice in war, you gotta play to win.

I'll shut my yap too before the moderators shut us down.

500,000 Iraqi children died as a result of the 1991 Gulf War and the sanctions placed on the country.
