Are you serious about bottle rockets?!! How does THAT work? Is there a Rick's leather-clad bottle-rocket launcher I'm missing?

When traveling to National SCCA autocrosses throughout the year, I do a good bit of late night interstate driving. I usually travel as late into the night as I am able too. Find a hotel and sleep for a few hours.

I would suggest a good Radar detector (Valentine One), and CB radio. Beleive it or not, the truckers spend alot of time discussing the speed trap situation. All this is not fool proof, but it does help a ton.

Yeah - I was about to start the radar detector thread in conjunction with this one. I definitely need one. Will not be hardwiring the V-1 into the car, I don't generally like how they've been placed. CB too eh? I know it helps, but I don't want to be overly laden with equiopment. Is it possible to get a nice portable CB that I can plug and earpiece into while listening for smokeys?

Just to give you a perspective. It will take you about 8-9 hours from the FL/GA border to Key West. Its one long ass trip. If you drive make sure you drive the overseas highway during the day. All the tourists who dont have a clue about where they are always manage to head-on someone on that road during the holidays.

If it were me, I'd say Auto-Train, but not for $1100. No wonder why Amtrak is broke!

That being said I'd rent a car and drive. I got a Ford Exploder for $35/day the last trip I took from Hertz. I think driving the S2000 would be a little tiring considering the lack of space and fairly large amounts of noise.

I am actually very, very familiar with the overseas highway from Miami to KW, have done it many, many times. Would like to do it during the day too, don't want to hit a Key Deer and get banished to Afghanistan (they are CRAZY about those damm deer in Big Pine Key). I've done the drive from upstate NY (Syracuse) to Marathon more times than I'd like to admit. Longest component was going from Savannah to Syracuse in one shot (18 hours I think). I was looking for added prespective about the drive from DC down and to get some auto-train feedback (that would be the best, but not at that price).

Don't mind being in the S2000 and don't want to rent a car. Part of the reason for driving it is being able to put the top down on the 7 Mile Bridge!!
