Default Dead Pixeled Monitor

So, this morning, I turned on the computer, everything was fine, went on S2ki, fine, then all of a sudden, I noticed this faint blue line as I was posting, which was straight, so I was like, Whoa, so I closed the browser, And there was this blue line that extends vertically down the monitor except for an inch at the top. So I freaked out and restarted the compouter, and the blue line was there every step of the way. When I restarted, the start up, everything, except the moment I turn on Internet Explorer, it stops for a few milliseconds, then goes back to the blue line. I'm guessing these are dead pixels, and I just wanted to make sure. It won't go away! I have a KDS VS 15 inch Flat screen if that helps any. Thanks

George

dead pixels tend to be white not blue.
it could be your connection ports or a faulty video card.
try re-installing your driver, re-connect your ports and if you still have a problem....it's time to get a better LCD!

you have an LCD or CRT? Dead pixels are very rare in CRT's although they are common in LCD's.

I lost you after "re-installing your driver" I have an 32 MB nVidia GeForce2 MX card, What does reconnecting the ports mean? Pulling the Monitor->Computer plug?

YES I KNOW I SHOULD GET (should've gotten) A BETTER LCD But I'm not since I'm saving up for another Mac

If it a single line of pixels, then the connector to the LCD is bad. LCD panels work as a matrix, and whole banks of pixels can go dead -- think of the problems with the original yellow-screened GameBoy.

Nothing much you can do with it. You can verify the hardware problem by simply swapping with a known good monitor. Or tap around the edges of the screen (not on the screen) and see if the line flickers on and off.

A severe example of this problem is shown on the top image of a laptop on this page:

The Line does not Flicker when I tap around the edges. But it does disappear when I go to "My Computer". That's what's weird Most of the time it's there, but sometimes it's not. And yes, it is one single, vertical line about 3/4s of the way to the right.

It's too much to the right that the Menu can't get a chance to overlap, but when the computer was off, and I turned the monitor on, the line was still there.

Is it a single-pixel width wide? If so, I had the same thing happen on an IBM monitor. Sent it back for replacement.

Yeah, it's 1 pixel wide. I've had this Monitor for 3-4 years now...
