And I am sure that the ranking does isn't directly related amount of advertising budget that is available?

During one of my issues I called their tech support at 2:00A, don't remember why I was awake.

Yeah Dell sucks. My Inspiron 7000 motherboard crashed last week. The HP has held up better.

You think a company sucks because you had an electronic device go bad?!? I have had brand new computers straight out of the box not work. (This one wasn't a Dell.) Electronic devices can fail at any time. Some electronics will last 20 years where the same product might last 5 years elsewhere or even less for that matter. Yours might be a good conclusion if a majority of that model type had major problems, but I personally had an Inspiron 7000 and had no problems with it. Even if I had an IBM laptop that the system board failed in I wouldn't blame IBM. That's just the nature of electronics. When you start talking about support and physical engineering then I think you have room to bitch. My $.02

BTW - You really think Dell made that system board? Kinda like the fact that both your HP and Dell have IBM HDs in them.

No, it's directly based on customer survey responses done by ind. 3rd parties.

issues with tech support and call centers in general these days is due to outsourcing far away from the actual product. they are helpful from time to time, but bad apples - yes, they are there.

a bad motherboard? that crashed? well I wouldnt say it crashed, I mean you still have all your data.

also, I'm not sure if this is still correct, but about 5 years ago it was guesstimated that 15% of electronic parts go bad. I'm sure its improved considerably in the last few years. lots of products being shipped out on a daily basis - for dell, back in the day it was ~12K boxes a day if I remember correctly.

remember screwtape.com ? it used to be a great place for those tech support calls, like BOFH - which btw, in TX is registered to a Miata owner as the license plate. gotta love it.

The dells we have tend to have problems with the display. Our compaqs just flat out suck. Only the sonys and toshibas have had the best success rate at my company
