Default Dental implants

#14 had to be pulled and while you can't see it missing when smiling it's freaking annoying when I chew on that side of my mouth. I am also informed that bone loss can occur since the tooth is missing. I'm am highly considering getting an implant, but reviewing the procedures makes me think twice. Has anyone had this done before?

I'd like to know this as well because I grind the hell out of my teeth while sleeping. What is it about the procedures that's making you think twice?

Eh the fact that a titanium stud is drilled into your bone. I just think that over time it could crack the bone or something...and the thought of that makes we want to curl into a ball.

I'm going to end up with two. The first should be completed next Tuesday and the second stud inserted. Given enough nitrous and Novacain the procedure is completely painless and done correctly the jawbone will bond to the stud and actually be stronger than a natural tooth's root.

Choose your dentist very carefully!

I lost the upper first molar on both sides because my orthodontist when I was a kid took some shortcuts and moved the teeth too quickly. I know what you mean about chewing being annoying.

Dang dude, yeah let me know. I have rave reviews about this place and looks promising. IV sedation + post-op pain management sounds "effective!"

My general dentist though tells me that my ins. doesn't cover implants Oh well, I'll use Flex money and get it done tax free at least

Yep. Dental insurance won't cover implants. Talk to the dentist - the splash on their webpage is totally unrealistic - it won't happen in a day if it's done correctly. If you've had an extraction it takes time for the bone to grow back before you can even consider starting an implant.

i wouldn't have a gap, i had braces and teeth being pulled, the others naturally separate and ease the tension of being clustered in the rest of the mouth, don't end up with gap teeth in the front!

I have one. Was a series of appointments, none of which were too bad to deal with. A few pain killers and a few days and you'll be fine. I actually waited about a year to have the abutment put into the hole and have the crown put on. All that time, the screw was under my gum. When I went back to have the abutment and crown fitted, they had to cut the gum and put a plug in to keep dirt/food out. That might have been the worse of the appointments.

MetLife dental (or at the least the plan I have) covers 50% of the implant. Unfortunately, with a cap on payments and the cost of dental work, chances are that with the other work, plus the crown, the checkup, etc... you'll likely hit your yearly max regardless.

After a delay I finally got the porcelain cap put on today. Looks perfect, fits perfect, feels perfect. The other implant should be complete by the end of the year.

I'm going to chew the crap out of something for supper tonight.
