nothing wrong with a princess cut IMHO. the setting has much to do with the initiial perception of any cut.

This setting is very traditional and very timeless. ...it is very classy and much better than any oval or pear shape nightmare. i take it the OP's future wife does not care for square cut stones, yes? this is good to know.

keep in mind that cut is trademarked and probably carries a premium.

This is correct... She favors the traditional brilliant round cut diamond.

Your probably right...

But hell, she's put up with me for 10 years..... I figure she rates the premium.

Here's a good link to the current patents and trademark diamonds.

And here's a link to some photos of those cuts.

good luck to you then

the 21 is baller cut and should produce excellent results for you

Are you going with a solitare or a mount with supporting diamonds?

if she does not favor other shapes, I suggest solitare as any inclusion stones will affect the perception of the over all shape of the ring. if you go solitare, the actual wedding band should not include stones either....take special care to select a high quality stone in a solitare setting as the the stone is obviously the star of the show.

This is my dilema....

Her engagement ring has 5 diamonds on it. The center Diamond is 3/4 carat and the 4 outer ones are 1/4 carat.

The wedding band has 5 diamonds on it and all are 1/4 carat stones.

Put them together and it's 10 diamonds totaling 3 carats.

The problem is, that all 10 diamonds are cut with around 50+ facets traditional brilliant round. 10 years ago it was bling bling.... they still look good but I think because over the years I've seen some of the newer 100+ facet diamonds, I feel the need to upgrade.

Can I get away with a single 3/4 or 1 carat Lady 21 diamond for her to wear on her Right hand?

I just know that if I try to replace the center diamond on the engagement ring it's going to really make the other 9 diamonds not look so good.

AAAUUUGGHHHH!.....

Any suggestions?

Yep, I have a suggestion. Are you sure that she is even interested in a change? Many (most?) women are rather sentimental about their rings and would rather just have what they were given originally no matter how humble (and that setup is far from humble).

good point

I did not even realize this was an upgrade to an existing setup. My bad.

I would definately find out what she wants in this situation and work from there. She may like the aspect of multi-stone mounts. Women are kinda funny about replacing OG wedding sets. you are better off going for a right hand ring like you said....

but in the end it should be up to her and I would get her input on it before making big decisions like this. surprises are nice but, in this instance with the invest you are preparing to make, it would show prudence and smart descretion to get her input.
