Usage Note: The traditional rule states that the whole comprises the parts and the parts compose the whole. In strict usage: The Union comprises 50 states. Fifty states compose (or constitute or make up) the Union. Even though careful writers often maintain this distinction, comprise is increasingly used in place of compose, especially in the passive: The Union is comprised of 50 states. Our surveys show that opposition to this usage is abating. In the 1960s, 53 percent of the Usage Panel found this usage unacceptable; in 1996, only 35 percent objected. See Usage Note at include.

De Beers = Cartel
Count how long it takes for De Beers to buy or otherwise take control of any significant diamond deposit worldwide. As mentioned, De Beers has created the mass illusion that diamonds are a.) rare, and b.) valuable.
Is this an outstanding business move, or a scam?
One moral issue that I DO have with diamonds is with respect to so called "conflict diamonds". De Beers (along with most buyers in Antwerp) swear that they have nothing to do with these stones, although there is conflicting information there.
In the end, the buyer will have to decide if a 10 year old child had thier arms lopped off so that a loved one can carry around a worthless chunk of carbon.
If the link above doesn't work, just do a google search for conflict diamonds
