Default Difficult Life Decisions

I've been offered an opportunity that I'm 99% certain only comes once in a lifetime, but yet I hesitate at the opportunity because of what I need to give up in order to follow that opportunity. Life is never like in a video game, you know? Hit ~ and let the console drop, type in /god, /notarget, and /give all and you have it all.

Have you ever been in the same situation? What were your deciding factor(s)?

Well, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it worked for a couple of years than panned out to be nothing much, because of the current fall of the music industry.

But if you feel that it's worth it, go for it

Take it from an "older" board member. There will be many "chance in a lifetimes" in your life. I personally feel that we ARE in control of our destiny and that life is what you make it! I say go for it! You're young and will have numerous opportunities after this one. If it doesn't work out, there will be many more opportunities to find riches and happiness.

I wish you the best of success!

Thanks! I agree about the chances in a lifetime, but this type/magnitude of chance/opportunity would probably not fly into my face as it has again. It's not about the money, in fact, it'll be very little money (I'm almost certain), and a whole lot of work, but the potential ROI is simply tremendous

Much like the insurance business, life is all about risk management. I firmly believe that in order to break apart from the crowd that you must take calculated risks. For example, last year I was offered a job with a substantial raise, but lots of risk. This job was with a small company, but the potential to make $ was good. I decided to quit my otherwise secure job and go with the more risky one. After 4 months I was laid off from the risky job, and I'm sure many of the people from the job I quit laughed at me for my decision. In hindsight, I probably would have done it again, because I believe in taking these risks.

Albert Einstein summed it up best with the following statement:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Good luck in your decision!

Hmm ... going to Japan racing and doing business with Mr.Spoon?

I believe in taking risks in order to achive higher than the average everyday people. Just gotta keep the worst scenario in mind and go for it if you think you are ready. I truly admire those with this kinda courage

Me, I'm pretty comfortable with where I am. I like my job, my friends, where I live, have a decent salary to support my toys... I was recently asked if I wanted to head up a project to upgrade the City of Houston's computer systems. If that had worked out, after God knows what amount of aggravation and long hours and political crap, if things went well I could have ended up with a great reputation, power, and tons of money. And you know what? That doesn't matter to me. Beyond being able to afford more toys, what would that have gotten me? Some would look down on that as a lack of ambition. I think if people would chill out more, there wouldn't be so much suffering and idiocy in the world.
