An apprenticeship with a master is something that you really should strongly consider. Whatever it is, martial arts, plumbing, metal work, etc. You'll never learn more than one on one with a master.

I think you should take the risk...you never know what will happen down the road. I took a risk a few years back, I left a job of 23yrs in the medical field to go to school to be a 9-1-1 dispatcher. It was something that took alot of thought( I was a single parent, homeowner, bills to pay, and had to take a pay cut for school). I did it, it was the most stressful job I have ever done, and that was just school. It was a ten week course, grueling at best, para-militaristic (nothing I was used to in my life, to say the least). I worked hard, but shortly after starting school I answered an add on line (personals) and met the man to become my husband. I struggled with school and ended up flunking out in the 7th week.
You may not think that any of this applies to you, but, it was something I had to try, and I did, even though I failed, I learned it wasn't something I really wanted to do. It was the job I will forever compare stress with. I learned alot, met great people, and know that it is not a job for everyone........they are to be commended for the job they do....it goes unseen most of the time and it shouldn't be.
Anyway, go for it, you don't know till you try, if it doesn't work out, something else will come along...another door will open. You have to try and hope it is the right thing to do, trust your instincts.
Good luck,
Camille

Thanks Camille!

I'm finding out about the details today, but after some inter-family discussions, I think if I don't do this I'll regret it for the rest of my life.

My guiding principle for choices. I never, in retrospect, want to say "I should have"

It sounds like you've already made up your mind.
