I got the Olympus C3030 Zoom about 3 weeks ago from http://www.digitaletailer.com for $587, which I am now finding was an incredibly good price. I love it...

Aaaarghhhh! Since I pad $800 for this model last summer I am a little, shall we say, upset. But such is life in the land of consumer electronics. I have been extremely pleased with the unit, but its replacement, the C-3040 has image stabilization as well.
I have a Ricoh RDC-7 and love it but it was around $600 in
November.
Whatever you decide try http://www.pricescan.com or something similar and check for coupons.
My RDC-7 listed for $999 but got a good deal over the web.
I think I got it at http://www.buy.com

If you're into manual control then check out the Nikon CoolPix line. They have models in the $500 range. I have a CoolPix 990 (more $$) and I don't use my 35 mm Nikons anymore except for the fastest sports action. Shutter lag is still an issue in all consumer level e-cameras (even prefocussed in manual mode).
