Default Digital Camera Suggestions?

I've been looking at some member's pic posts, and the pics are incredible! What kind of digital cameras is everyone using? I'd like to jump into digital but don't want to spend too much on my first camera.

Anyone have suggestions for the 2-3 hundred dollar range? I'd like it to have optical zoom(if possible in this price category).

Awesome site - at least they know about taking pictures! (whereas most digital camera reviews are done by computer guys).

a member here gave me a good tip, if you plan on just using the camera for internet albums and not to print any pics go for a good 1.3 megapixel . You can pick one up for about $250.00

I just bought a Kodak 3.1 Megapixel camera for $307 at buydig.com (DX3900).

Great picture quality for the price.

I bought my sister a Kodak DX 3600 for $299. It is a very simple to use camera that takes very good pictures. I was surprised at the quality when she e-mailed a couple to me. The coolest feature of this camera was that you can plug it into the VCR port on your TV and see the pictures jumbo size. This worked great for when she got back from her honeymoon and needed to share the pictures with the family.

I have a canon powershot G2. 4+ mega pixels, works great, lasts long time (I hope).

The image quality is superb, and the camera has lots of manual features if you need them.

A few in depth reviews:

PS. I like the camera alot!

Buy the camera for it's use.
If internet only, don't go for a high dollar, high res camera.
The monitor will only resolve about 72 PPI so everything else is wasted in long upload times.
If your interested in printing, you need the opposite. Every pixel you can get on the largest CCD available.
Also pick up an Epson 780. Results are amazing.
dpreview is the place to look.
Get the best glass you can for the money.
Megapixels are useless if the lens won't resolve detail.
All you get are sharp out of focus pixels.
Study the sample galleries and read the reviews.
