Digital camera suggestions?
When I bought my digicam, I wanted one thing: for it to fit in my pocket and not be noticed.
I got the Canon powershot S110 elph. The thing is simply tiny! For that reason it is great. It is only 2.1mpixel, so it doesn't take incredible never-before-seen pictures at 1000000x2000000 resolution, but for my purposes which include taking fun pictures and saving them to look at later, it is great.
In my opinion, you simply can't beat being comfort of being on vacation and not having a large klunky camera hanging around your neck.
If size was not an issue, I would definately splurge for a 5mpixel camera, those things create incredible images

I personally really like the pics that the Nikon's take. If you check www.techbargains.com, they tell you how to get a Nikon CoolPix 995 for under $400! (gotta do some price matching with your Amex Blue card). That's a sweet deal! My friend has a Sony DSC-P1, and that camera takes pretty nice pics too. Plus, it has a very user-friendly interface.
2 Mpixel cameras take shots that make very acceptable 8x10" pictures.
3.3 Mpixels take shots that are pretty good up to 20x30"
5 Mpixels go to big as$ poster size.
Fact is we would only rarely want anything bigger than 5x6" and bigger than 8x10" is very very very rare.
Waaaaaaay back to my orig post in this thread... I stated, "That's really like asking what to order in a restraunt.
It depends on what you want, how much you want to spend and in general what you want to use it for. "
Louie... it all depends. I think this thread is all over the map because you haven't said what it is that you really want. What are the major factors?... price, size, res, interchangeable lenses, fully manual ability....?

Bought a Fuji FinePix 2600 zoom after seeing all the great pictures that airgate was posting using this camera. This 2 mp camera only costs $300 and fits in your pocket. I think cameras are like pc were -- they are advancing so fast that you don't want to buy top of the line because it will be obsolete just a quck as the $300 throw-away priced one.

Resolution is important (>3 megapixels would be nice but not absolutely required)
Size is important- I don't want to carry anything too large
As far as manual ability or interchangable lens, these are not important to me
User friendly- I am not the most computer/digital tolerable person

While it's good to get some feedback from here, you really should check out a greater number of user's opinions by going to sites like cnet.com, buy.com, pricegrabber.com, etc. You can read many comparative reviews, and check out the best (lowest) prices. I just found a Coolpix 5000 for $826, which had outstanding reviews.
Another great way to choose, is go over to your nearest circuit city (or wherever) and look at all the cameras they have out on display. I can't speak for all circuit cities, but the one by my house has almost all digital cameras out to play with. Usually if you ask someone they can find a compactflash/smartmedia/memorystick for you so you can try it out.
I don't recommend buying the camera there as you can find a MUCH lower price online somewhere, but it's a good way to get the thing in your hand before laying down the credit card.
Good luck!
