Do i have skin cancer?
i have this dry, scabby area on my left shoulder. at first i thought it was a bug bite, and i developed a bad habit of pickin at the scab. but after months, the wound doesnt seem to be healing. I did some research online, and most sources say that if the wound doesnt heal, it might be skin cancer. Problem is, i dont know if its really not healing, or is it because i kept pickin at it...
I'm asian, 19, fairly dark skined; not sensitive to the sun. Compared to many socal residents, i dont think i spent that much time in the sun. And my shoulder is always covered by my clothe... so... i dont see how it might be skin cancer.
Anyways, i set an appointment with a dermatologist... hope to hear good news.
Anyone want to shed some information or experience on this topic? From what i've read, i dont think i have melanoma (the more serious case). Excluding melanoma, are other types of skin cancer life treatening? And am i more prone to develop other types of cancer?
Yeah, i know, im goin to the docs, why post (especially on s2ki). but since my damn appointment is on thursday, i have a few days to go. and this is really bothering/caring the crap out of me.

It's most likely not, but the dermatologist won't know unless he takes a sample from it and send it over for testing. A good dermatologist will be able to tell if you even have to get to that point. I'd definitely have it checked out, but it's probably gonna be fine. Asians are not as prone to skin cancer as fair-skinned caucasians. Still, try to stay out of the sun and always use sunblock.
