he's talking about this kind of middle turn lane

So, OP, where are you located? Here's the only relevant statute I could find for Texas:

So many haters in this thread!
Fight the damn ticket. It is the officers job to enforce the law TO THE BEST OF HIS KNOWLEDGE AND DISCRETION! He was only doing his job by using said discretion, but he is not a judge. Only the judge can interpret what the law states, and whether or not you were in violation of that law.
It seems to me that you were within your right to utilize the lane, but I don't know what the law in your state says about distance before the turn. I am positive that the law will not specify how many cars you may pass, but rather how soon before a turn you may enter a turning lane. Lets say that you passed 10 cars. The average length of cars may be 12 feet, lets say 15 to account for space between cars. 10x15= 150ft. Assuming that this is accurate, is that an unreasonable distance? That is up to a judge to decide.
Best case scenario: the ticket is thrown out.
Probable scenario: the judge reduces it to a non-moving violation and you walk out of there $25 poorer.
Worst case scenario: you lose and pay the ticket anyway. The judge might even be nice enough to clear it before it sees your record.

Lmao... well i know that in Arizona and after attending a stupid 8 hour class because they said that I ran a red light, in which I didn't.... but anyways, they stated at the class you can drive in the middle turning lane for any amount of distance as long as you do turn.
The instructor said he always see people go into that lane to pass 8- 10 cars or 3-4 blocks and then turn. He said it was completely legal.
I would fight it. I don't know what state you're in, but you should be okay.
