Default Do Valentine One radars work?

Thinking of buying one, but wanna make sure they work as well as they claim to be, before I spend $300-$400 on one. Anyone use one?

I used one for about three years when I used to drive up and down the Taconic State Parkway from NYC to Fishkill. Speed limit is 55 and I used to average 80-85. Worked like a charm. Never got a ticket, and the NY state troopers were hiding everywhere!

I love mine too. Why would you think a $400 device not work with all the hype and consumer reports about the unit?

When I had a bmw I went into the dealership's store to look at their radar detectors that they could install/integrate into the car. The OWNER of the dealership walked me aside and said - don't buy any of them - get a Valentine.

Best $400 I've spent. As with any RD you must use common sense over hills, around turns, etc. And of course, if the fuzz doesn't have their radar on, it's obviously not gonna tell you they're there!

Their customer service is second to none!

I just returned my unit. Totally useless IMO, unless you consider the precise location of supermarket doors useful. It may only be useful on long road trips where you get very few false alerts.

Save your money and just drive near the speed limit. In the 30 days I had the unit, it hasn't once "saved" me from anything. I got 2 laser warnings in the city and didn't see a cop for miles. The rest of the time, it just beeped at supermarkets and gas stations. On top of that, I have had 5+ cops drive either right behind me or past me without the V1 making a peep. Sure, it isn't the V1's fault since it only works if they shoot radar, but it just goes to show that if a cop sees you speeding he is going to tag you anyways.

One more thing, if a cop sees you with a V1, he isn't going to give you any slack. I mean, if you are 5 mph over, he may cite you just because you have a detector. Check the cop forums--no slack for radar detectors.

Another negative is that if the suction cups fail (happened to me) the unit will fall and screw up your dash. Depending on the dash design on your car, this can be either harmless or very bad.

Summary: If you want beeping everytime you pass a supermarket, get a V1. If you want to be distracted by arrows that serve no actual purpose, then get a V1. If you want a cop to stare you down for owning a detector, then get a V1.

Just because a cop "sees" you speeding doesn't mean he is going to tag you. Somehow I dont think a judge is going to go with the "I saw you speeding" evidence!

Regardless....its a great detector and worth the money!

Amazing!!!! Actually just saved my a$$ 2 days ago when I was speeding on a twisty road and there was a motorcycle cop in front of me behind a turn and I stomped on my brakes... works like a charm.

Feel naked without it when driving. The only thing is that you have to remember... nothing is better than your eyes cause sometimes they use the trigger type radar detectors and they won't tag you until you are close to them and it's too late... so still keep your eyes peeled.
