you know what really work? don't speed (at least don't do excessive speed )

the cop can pace and give you a ticket without using radar

so the safest way to go is not to speed

V1 FTW. I've had mine since January 2003 and its more than paid for itself. Yes, if you drive around in the city with lots of automatic doors, its going to beep, but you know, thats what its supposed to do. Pick up on radar sources. And all detectors do it. Not much point in getting it just to drive around a dense city anyway. On the highway, its great. I've picked up signals miles away (though most of the time with a cop I'll get maybe 30 seconds or so of warning, from the first beep to almost a solid tone denoting how close you are to the source). And the arrows are awesome.

Just dont think you're immune from the popo when you get one and keep alert and your eyes open for cars sitting on the shoulder and you'll be fine.

Four weeks ago we drove up Angeles Crest. On the way back down, about three miles south of the Mt. Wilson cutoff, my Passport 9500 instantly lights up full toot. Immediately around a curve is a CHP on a bike with a radar gun hiding behind some rocks. No warning. He pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for 62 in a 45 and no front plate. He claimed he got me with his radar gun, but I think that's BS. I slowed down before I saw him. I think he saw me slowing down. He must have found a group of rocks with the geometry that can defeat the radar detector warning window. Be careful.

Just because a cop "sees" you speeding doesn't mean he is going to tag you. Somehow I dont think a judge is going to go with the "I saw you speeding" evidence!
Actually, cops can issue speeding tickets based on surveillence and without using a radar gun. Depending on certain cases, some judges do go with the cops' credibility and experience, of which I forgot the term.

I just returned my unit. Totally useless IMO, unless you consider the precise location of supermarket doors useful. It may only be useful on long road trips where you get very few false alerts.

Save your money and just drive near the speed limit. In the 30 days I had the unit, it hasn't once "saved" me from anything. I got 2 laser warnings in the city and didn't see a cop for miles. The rest of the time, it just beeped at supermarkets and gas stations. On top of that, I have had 5+ cops drive either right behind me or past me without the V1 making a peep. Sure, it isn't the V1's fault since it only works if they shoot radar, but it just goes to show that if a cop sees you speeding he is going to tag you anyways.
Cops don't necessarily run around with their radar on all the time. If they passed you, chances are they were going someplace, not necessarily trying to regulate traffic.

In a place where there are supermarkets, there really isn't an opportunity to speed usually (heavier traffic, more stoplights, etc, etc), so I don't know why you'd care.

Use it on the freeway and highway, where you can safely drive the car quickly.

You're definitely an anomaly amongst V1 users.

I am sure you are right...they have guns and can do whatever they want really. But trying to prove what they think is correct in a court of law is another matter....personally I would hire a lawyer if a cop pulled me over for what he *thought* I was doing.

laser is little different. i do have v1 for awhile and had same issues with laser and actually emailed compnay about it and they wrote me back on how laser works. you cant actually see the laser beam but it's red in color. i know this for fact cuz i saw a cop using a laser gun and red light was blinking on this laser gun. also when it detects infra red wave it will do the same.

but either you have v1 or other brand and you are speeding and cop gets you with a laser gun then you are pretty much screwed. cop's laser gun takes probably 1 second to read your speed and by the time your v1 goes off and try to slam on your brake you are already too late. i heard escort or beltronics makes laser jammer but that's pricy and you have to mount that on front of your car like in your bumper. v1, escort, beltronics all work very very well. it's more of your preferences i use v1 and love it cuz it's got directional signals. so i know where the signal is coming from.
