Do you still fly?
Still on track for my normal 100,000 mile year. Always making the assumption that when its your time its your time. This doen't mean that you would, as in the song "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", spit into the wind, tug on Supermans cape, pull the mask on the Lone Range, and don't mess around with Jim.

[B]Hi All:
I am moving back from the US (Detroit Area) to Europe (The Netherlands) in two weeks.
My S2000 is being shipped by boat at the end of next week (October 12th) and I am flying out on October 21.
I am not really happy...
I am really starting to get a little bit afraid, actually...

I've got a story for you: I have a flight in 3 hours. The local news just reported that Sky Harbor airport is locked and guarded because a Middle Eastern man triggered the metal detector and then ran past the security guards to the gates. There are conflicting reports about whether he has been found.
All America West flights (my airline and the biggest airline in and out of Phoenix) are sitting on the runway.

I'll still fly, especially now with all the cheap airfare. They just had a scare yesterday with a mentally instable guy rushing into the cockpit. The passengers all jumped on that guy. I don't think it's going to be that easy to hijack a plane anymore.
OK so you still fly! Have you considered the possibility that your plane just might be targeted by a nut, or worse? What would you do if your in first class, and you see a guy/girl walk up from behind you and try to get into the cockpit? Can we afford to believe that someone else is going to deal with this situation? On this last episode the pilot called for help and was provided air cover. These planes are instructed to shoot down if necessary, an aircraft if it abruptly changes it's flight path. I am not bringing this up to scare anyone, (it's potential is scary!!!) we must be ready to act if it is required. Americans must become aware, and very vigilant of our surroundings and the things that are happening in our personal space. I certainly don't suggest being "Billy Bad Ass", but life in our world is now very different from what it was pre 09/11/01. Your action's / reaction's may just save the day! What do you think?
The better half and I are no longer going to make short trips (i.e. from S.Cal to N.Cal or AZ) by plane. Instead we're driving. Not becuase, we've been frightened off but becuase it's easier, cheaper, and now less stressful and time absorbing.
Longer flights. Absolutely. i think there are a lot of other things to worry about than some a-holes foolishly trying to take down the plane. I firmly believe that no group of passengers would sit by and let that happen again.
Are we a little scared. Of course, we're only human. We refuse to let that interfere with the rest of our lives.

I'll still fly commercial but I can no longer fly my own plane . All of the airports I used to fly at are within the "enhanced" Class B airspace. Makes it pretty hard to stay current. I guess I'll be riding with an instructor while I get an instrument rating. Meanwhile my instructor can breeze in and out of any airport under VFR. Wait until you see the rest of the new regs or FAR's as they are known, we're just getting started
flew on the 14th. have been to NYC, Chicago, Milan, and Seattle since the 11th and feel safer every time. in retrospect security on the 14th sucked compared to where it's at today. of course, there were no lines then either.
