Does anyone here drive without their shoes?

I'm a size 12 and had a difficult time with shoes when I first bought the car. It was my first stick, and it was even a challenge to change a CD while driving.

Now that I've owned it for a year, I can drive it with anything. Leather sole dress shoes, chucks, flip-flops. You just need to get used to the feel. To me, barefoot makes it hard to be consistant. I always end up with just a couple of toes on a pedal.

I prefer to drive barefoot. I'm a US 10.5, but the front of my foot is fairly broad, so executing a heel and toe is much easier. I'm working on a customised driving shoe that's pretty much toe socks made out of neoprene and a thin later of flexible rubber

Its a must for me to go shoeless when my choice for the day is flip-flops.

The heel of the left one will get caught occasionally when I am backing my foot off the clutch and it can be very annoying.

I go bare feet sometimes when I have long drives (2+hrs) on the freeway, since I don't need to do much braking or shifting.

Driving barefeet is the only way to really connect yourself with the car and feel the difference in tension. My friend and I both learned stick from my friend's dad. He insisted we removed our shoes to be in one with the car.

I agree that while you learn, barefoot might help. However, in a car that you've been driving for a while, I think relying on that much feel is questionable. Because my muscle memory has learned how far I need to push each petal in my S for a given action, I could drive in 3-inch platforms and still be smooth. I actually find that I make more mistakes when I drive barefoot, because I'll feel the slightest twinge and do something I wouldn't normally do. It's all about becoming automatic for a given action, not about analyzing everything you feel in the car.
