Default Does anyone own a Canon Powershot S410/S500

I was wondering if you could manually control the shutter speeds in the "Slow Shutter" mode or does the camera automatically decide from 1-15seconds for you.

Say I wanted a shutter speed of 4 seconds, I would go to the slow shutter mode, would the camera pick the shutter speed for me depending on how much light there is or is there a menu where I can choose 1 second through 15 seconds?

I have a Canon S200 2 megapixel and can't adjust the slow shutter. The camera does it for me. I have never heard of this option in the 3.2 or 4 meg Canon cameras either.

I've seen from different places that if you are in slow shutter mode you can choose your shutter speed in 1/3 increments starting at 1 and ending at 15.

Can you try doing something for me?

Go to "manual mode" on the camera.
then select "yes" for slow shutter.
then go to "exposure compensation/whitebalance/coloreffect", then when you are there, press the Right arrow once.

Does it give you a choice between 1second through 15 seconds or no?

It works pretty well. I definitely take more pictures since I got it, but I've never owned a digital camera before. It really is small, and as a result, goes pretty much everywhere with me. You can check out my albums for a few examples of what kind of pictures it can generate. I'm certainly no pro, but I'll only use it in manual mode. The fully auto mode I though didn't take pics as nice as if I played with it in manual mode. I'd buy it again if I was given the choice.

Chris.

If you want manual controls, definitely go with the S60. The S400 I have is a great point and shoot camera, but lacks the more sophisticated controls of the S60. Here's a review: S60 Review

Have fun!

S60 possibly has more features and pixels that I can handle, and it is quite a bit bigger and about 70 dollars more expensive.

S410 is more portable, is less expensive, but has less features.
