Say there's a person that runs a message forum about scrapbooking. Now, let's say this person also has another website dedicated to... I dunno... let's say it's for downloading free clipart for your scrapbooks or something. Is it considered spam if this person keeps crossposting links into their message forum that says "Check out this frilly photograph border!"?

Just curious what OT thinks.

Spam if you paid for a membership to the website. Not spam if the website is free.

How do you discern the difference on a website that has both paying members, and non paying members subject to the same said spam?

That's my point - paying members should not be subjected to the advertisements that non-paying members are. If they are, it's spam.

I was just posing a hypothetical, and changing the names to protect the innocent. I've seen a lot of spam/worthless links to "gofastvideo" on here lately. I get it... paying s2ki members disappeared in droves after the latest "upgrade", so there's a need to generate revenue from other means, but come on... really?
