Does it make sense to get 1080P for smaller TV siz
Well they both have their pros and cons.
LCDs are generally lighter, use less power, and produce less heat. They typically provide better contrast with direct light on the screen (from a window for example). They also are able to produce the deepest blacks using dynamic contrast, but not without negative consequences which I will get into below.
Plasmas typically have better overall contrast, better color accuracy, and they handle motion better. They are not able to display blacks as deep as newer LCDs, but they still have better contrast because they are able to display deep blacks AND bright whites at the same time. This allows them to show dark scenes with high detail, whereas when an LCD is displaying a dark scene, details will not be as visible.

lcds still can't beat the best plasmas.. the reason that plasma manufacturing is down, and you will see a bajillion LCDs in stores compared to only a few plasmas isn't because LCDs offer a superior picture.
And yes, plasmas get hot. I have to watch mine with the A/C turned on in the summer or else the room gets too hot

It's like the Beta vs VHS battle, only no company owns LCD nor Plasma technology wholly. LCD seems to be prevailing now for no reason. Now it's going to be the technology that gets millions upon millions of dollars dumped into R&D just to get it to match the key features of Plasma technology, then surpass it. When it does, people will all say, "SEE?? LCD IS a better technology than plasma!" Despite the fact that plasma would've been light years ahead of LCD if had only received the same level of investment.
In the end I think we'll end up with comparable results, but we'll have funded the growth with more of our own dollars than if we'd continued working with Plasma technology.
Phew. Rant complete.
