i'm selling my xbox 360 on ebay...got this email...the whole african thing makes it sound like a scam...should i tell the guy to f-off and that i've called the cops??

heres the email

"I want to know if really this item is in good condition and also i will pay $1100 to end the bid bcos of my ugrency.I will like to make a quick purchase on the item cos i will like to use the item as a new year gift to a friends son in west africa.he is really going to love it.My payment method is Western Union branded Money Order Bidpay.If ok by you kindly get back to me with the full name and address of where you want the money to be mailed out to so i can proceed with payment immdaitely.I will take all the shipping responsibilities i have an account with fedex and i will like the item to be shipped through my fedex account.So you wont need to pay any shipping cost cos all the shipping cost will be billed to my fedex account.So once the payment has been approved and you have recieved the payment approval confirmation,i will send you all neccessary shipping document for the fedex pick.plz get back to me with your full name and address and also the lbs of the package so i can proceed t"

if he's not willing to wait 2 weeks for the money order to clear, it is a scam. you could call up western union and have it confirmed as genuine immediately, too.

 

Sounds like a scam to me.

 

i guess the scam is in the fake money order. They may have hijacked someone's bidpay account (if it is similar to a paypal account) and want to use the $ quickly.??? that "PHISHING" thing has gotten to be a pretty big scam. I am always getting emails from a fake "paypal" and "ebay" to try to get my passwords.

Yeah, that's a scam . BTW, I like how he gave the email some african authenticity by writing "cos" 50 times .

 

Yup, that's a common scam. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

By the way, these guys actually know how to set up fake FedEx accounts now. A co-worker of mine got a phone call from someone in Arkansas once. She wanted to confirm a shipping address for something or other. When he asked who the hell she was, and why she was calling him, she said that she was offered some exhorbitant amount of money for something she was selling, and was given a FedEx account to use. his name was associated with the account (the scammer used his name to open the account) and she looked him up in the Yellow Pages because the shipping address she was given was somewhere in Europe.

Delete that e-mail and forget about it.
