Default Dog fences - the electric shocking kind

My dogs keep getting out of my yard, does anyone have experience with the electric fence things that you bury and then it shocks the dog when they get close to the border? (I'm not too sure how they work)

If you do, can you give me some information on what brand/model you bought and if you've had any problems with it?

The house where I stay is a rental otherwise I'd just redo the whole fence.

Thanks!

PS - the dog that's causing the problems is about 70 lbs right now, and only 10 months old, so he's probably going to grow more, if that matters.

Invisible Fence FTW!
We have about 2acres with the buried wire. Dogs wear a collar with 2 dull prongs that'll shock them if they don't heed the beeps when they get too close to the wire. Little resistors under the prongs that you can vary the shock based on the dog's tolerance to pain.
Once they get shocked a couple of times, they wont go past that spot or try to go past the temporary little flags you'll have. After a few weeks, they're conditoned and they know just where they can go without the flags.
Had this for years.... works like a champ even for our dimwit dogs.
You will love it. Just let em out, let them run.

We used to have a 90(ish) lb Golden retreiver and it worked like a charm. You have to do a bit of training once its installed though. I can explain further if you decide to go through with it.

we have two fox terriers under invisible fence control. the training is the important part to making this a successful investment though, imo.

ok, i'll try to find some prices on the Invisible Fence.

does it come with training instructions? I guess once I see what all it comes with I'll be able to figure out the basics.

Our fence went out due to a lightening strike. It took months for us to realize this because my dog is so well trained to the fence.
He's a big wuss.
My wifes Boston Terrier would run right thru the fence. Shock and all. Didnt care 1 bit.
That dog is psyco.

Haha the first thing I thought about with an invisible Fence. Install fence by your drive way with the dog in it. Thieves won't see a fence, but they will see a dog out in the open, and when they try to break into your truck/s2k they will be like OH CRAP! There's a dog out in the open! Good security for your car.

The only bad thing about it though would be if your dog barks at neighbors.

I think I'm going to try this one: http://www.radiofence.com/dog-fences/no-wi...?=shopzilla.com

Everything I found for Invisible Fence says it has to be professionally installed, does that sound right?
