As a dog lover........
We had a German Shepherd a few years back. It was a lovely dog, but you have to be careful as they can turn out to be "one man" dogs, which can be dangerous if you have a family.
Our dog turned on my sister one time and on me one time...... this can be quite frightening when you have a 110 pound dog attacking you!!!!!
Good on you for getting a rescued dog, I would do the same if I was in a position to get another dog

Have had 4 Labs. One from the pound, two purchased, and the one that we currently have is from Lab Rescue. We have had him for a year and he is just getting over his "traumas" of being in 5 different homes in the first 9 months he was alive.
In my opinion, rescue dogs are the best. The two pets we've ever had were 'rescue's.
Our first one (Buster) was 1/2 golden retrieve and 1/2 black lab. He had the lab color and frame but the golden retriever 'feathers' on his legs and tail. He was the coolest dog, grew up w/ him. We miss him alot.
The one we have now (Lady) is of unknown mix. What we can tell is that she's part black lab (plumage, physical features) and part pit bull (large pink jaw muscles, soft little ears, and stout muscle structure that only developed in the last 9 months). She is the most submissive, docile dog I've seen. According to the vet (she was a stray), she might have been abused and then abondoned. But, we love her to death and she knows it. Oh, and she tries to talk to us (I don't mean barking, either-she makes these weird makes these weird grunting, grumbling, pseudo-howling noises-SOOOO CUTE!).
I'm a huge dog lover. I think they're the best companions.

my huby and i have a white german shepherd, shasta. beautiful dog, very loyal, and protective. i cant stress protective enough. our two dogs have gotten out of the fence yard twice in the 6 years we've had them and both times, shasta never went further than the sidewalk in front of the house. the other dog could have cared less, went 8 houses down where the owner recognized her and took her in, thank goodness. shasta is a very protective dog and does not take to friends the first few times we bring them over. so, it makes me nervous when we have family over. she's kinda strange that way. but we wouldn't trade her for anything. she is definitely my husband's dog. she listens to him the first time he gives her a command. on the other hand, when i tell her to do something, she takes her own sweet time, only after i've told her 3 times. i know she knows what i'm telling her, silly dog. anyway, i hops this helps
That is one one of the things that makes dogs so neat. To be able to tell what they're thinking. Knowing they hear and understand you, but ignore you because they want to show you who's boss. I've only had Greta two weeks and she makes me laugh every day with the things she does. I hope she's protective because she is very friendly and likes people and other dogs (even if they don't like her).
