Dog lovers - please help this dog recovering from poisoning
I'm posting this for a friend who's dog ate food contaminated with rat poison. The dog is recovering but as you can imagine, the vet bills are astronomical and he needs some help covering the bills. I thought I'd post here both as a reminder to be cautious about what your pets eat and to help raise funds for the dog's recovery. If you can help, please give through his IndieGoGo page
Here are the first couple of paragraphs about the situation from the fundraising page then an update from this morning:
3 days ago, while on a walk, Tisiphone ate food contaminated with rat poison. I don't know why anyone would do this, it's horrible and it's had a terrifying toll on Tisiphone. Her nose wouldn't stop bleeding for 2 days, she was coughing up blood all because her blood stopped coagulating & her red blood cells dropped dangerously low. She became lethargic, lost all appetite and yet her tail was still wagging when we'd call her name and pet her to comfort her.
UPDATE: From his FB page:
If someone told me at the beginning of all this, that I would find that 90% of the vets in LA were incompetent, I would've said "that's really really high. There really can't be that many bad vets in Los Angeles!" But unfortunately, it is absolutely true. After going to three different vets, two of which have very high ratings on Yelp, we discovered that Tisiphone was misdiagnosed twice! The last vet thinks she has spleen cancer, & informed us we should have her euthanized!
Fearing the worst, we decided to bring Tisiphone home and make her comfortable. We also switched her to a raw food diet that we found online for holistic vet care for dogs. THIS HAS CHANGED ALOT OF TISIPHONE'S SYMPTOMS.
The swelling in her legs from the internal bleeding has almost completely gone & her gums are getting pinker, it really seems like we're reversing the anemia & her coagulation is improving! We're going to get a 4th (ugh) opinion from a holistic vet friends have recommended. We're desperately trying to help our puppy get better, & we hope that now, we're on the right path. We still need your help to cover the costs of the treatment, and THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY DONATED!!! You're amazing and we can't describe how much we are grateful for all that you've done. Every little bit helps, please share and help Tisiphone so we can make sure our puppy recovers!
We'll update more hopefully with good news, but right now, we're in the fact gathering stages. Also if you have vet recommendations in LA, we'd love to hear them!
