Default Doggy woes, been a rough few weeks

Well, about a month ago, I came home and saw my buddy Gus Gus lying in a puddle of his own piss and poop on my kitchen floor, and his right leg was shaking. He could not get up and hold his own weight, which is why he peed and pooped right where he was laying. I took him to the vet, that gave him a steroid shot which killed his pain, and scheduled an MRI for two days later. The next day, the steroids wore off, he began crying hysterically, and it continued most of the day. I finally broke down and gave him another dose of roids to ease his pain. Two days later, I drove him for an MRI to see what the hell is going on. The vet prepped me and told me if the issue is spinal, I would have to think about quality of life and consider putting him down. We got the MRI done, and left him in the hospital overnight. I get a call from the hospital at 5am informing me that GusGus had a heart attack and passed away. I dropped my house phone and headed for the hospital. They assured me he went in his sleep (he was sedated because apparently he had 2 seizures before that) and he didn't suffer. When he was young he broke his leg chasing me up some limestone steps, and had two titanium pins inserted into his leg. I asked the hospital to cremate him, and please keep the pins and give them to me. It was probably one of the saddest times of my life. Truly mans best friend.

The day I picked him up...

A more recent shot....an excellent scrabble partner.....

I couldn't eat or sleep for a week after his death. Finally the wife convinced me to go get a new pup, reluctantly, I agreed. After looking for an AKC champion english bully, I finally found one in PA, went last weekend and picked him up.

Named him Apollo, and while he does bring me joy, I can't help but feel sadness from my lost pup. How do you guys deal with losing a pup?

Thanks for listening!

Sorry for your loss, I feel your pain even though I've never had a dog

Never forget, but do move on. Have fun with your new pup. With time it'll get better.

Just lost my dog a little ago. I had him for at least 6-years. Picked him up from a moron who abused him, burnt him with cigarette buds and so on. The dog was the smartest dog I've seen and weirdly understood moods like a human. I lost him due to some kind of cancer that sprouted out of no where, he went weak.. slowly stopped eating, got a lot skinnier and would sleep a lot so I made the hard choice have him put to sleep. The hardest part was letting go of his leash but also when I surprisingly received a foot print of his from the clinic. I have a picture when I was messing with him haha lost him in November, haven't got a dog since.

I'm sorry about your loss man. I had my dog pass away on me when I was in high school. It was the first dog that was "mine" I raised it from a puppy, it slept on my bed, I played with her almost all the time. It was definitely one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life to date.

So sorry.
Lost both my dogs. One last Thanksgiving, the other Jan 9, 2012.
It hurts. I took them home and buried them out back. Sometimes I think that was a mistake as I look out there a lot, walk over and talk to the graves.
I'm not ready for another right now.

My dog was sick for a long time. I spent a fortune to save him, but he was just too broken from cancer.

This was the pic I took of him on the way to ease his pain. The last pic.

Time will heal. I hope to see him again someday... just not in a big hurry to get there.

Sorry to hear about your dog... they truly are man's best friend!

When I married my wife, she had a 12 year old mixed breed that wasn't doing well....

Mindy lasted about 1.5 years and finally we had to put her down.

It really tore Kathy up, as she had raised her from a pup...

Two years go by and I start finding web pages for animal shelters up on the PC screen!

Shortly thereafter, we found a yorky-poo <s> at a shelter... 12-18 months old....

Now he helps me drive on vacation!

Every dog is different, but I'm sure you'll grow to like Apollo as well as Gus Gus!

Sorry for your loss. I've grown up around dogs my whole life and have been through this many times. Doesn't get any easier. Best thing to do is to remember the good times and create some new memories with your new pup.
