Don't like Bin Laden? Thank the CIA.
Back when the USSR was taking over Afghanistan, who did the CIA train in terrorism to fight back the 'commies'?

That's a bad case of something coming back to bite you in the ass.

Same could be said about Sadaam Hussein. Alot of their military arsenals are American (except for their Russian tanks, MIGS, etc)
Although I already knew this, it's funny how I didn't hear a word about in in the news all day yesterday. How can the Government, and media expect the US to think with responsable heads when they omit so much. Its a real shame.
A very good point. It does seem to me to be a case of "we reap what we sow".
Violence in any form is unacceptable. If the US (or any one else) believes in training others in the art and science of violence and terrorism, to be used against other nations, then it can hardly complain when those same individuals decide to use it back against them.
Why is it any more right for Bin Ladin to use terrorism against Afghani nationals than it is to use terrorism against the US?
I didn't hear you all speaking out then about having him lynched.
As for this ridiculous outcry about Palestinians dancing in the street have you all forgotten how 10 years ago we sat in front of our TVS at night watching CNN and gloated as the "West" sent missiles down chimneys and into streets and buildings in Baghdad.
The shoe's on the other foot now guys so don't be such a bunch of hypocrites.

2Kturkey, many of us weren't gloating at all as the bombs and missiles flew. I had friends and my former husband in the Gulf and in the air in Iraq, and I was just scared. I wanted them to find Saddam and blow him to bits, but I wanted that to happen quickly so that everyone could come home.
While that was going on, all of southeastern Virginia sat, holding our breath, much as that area does now. I guess that's the disadvantage to living in a city that's home to the largest military base on the east coast of the U.S.

Tanqueray, this shows how little you know about that part of the world, about humanity, and about violent uprisiings in general
You cannot distinguish between a war and terrorism - the techniques are the same. The Afghanistan war(s) was not just a case of each side lobbing shells and grenades at each other together with some rifle fire thrown in for good luck. These were subversive organisations using every trick in the book (and a lot more you will never see written down anywhere) against each other and against their own people and innocent citizens to achieve their goals.
To state otherwise is plain ignorance.
The reason the US didn't fly jets into buildings is simply because it didn't need to. The US has the wealth and the technology to be able to afford other forms of weaponry. Terrorists, like the true soldiers they believe themselves to be, will use any technique at their disposal - including sacrificing their own life - to achieve their own end. Given other options, however, I am damned sure they would prefer not to kill themselves if they thought they had a choice.
What gets me is that you believe these people are going out there and simply committing violence for the sake of violence. How do you think they got to the point that they are so desperate as to lay down their own lives for the sake of creating a better society for their family, neighbours and compatriots. People don't do this sort of thing unless they are backed into a corner and see no other way out.
As for violence in any form being unacceptable my point is simply that someone, at some point, has to hand out the olive branch. If you continually fight fire with fire you will ultimately end up with nothing but fire and no one left living to take the heat.
Sondra, I am sorry to hear about your experiences in the gulf war. I was living in North America at that time and was in San Diego during the first 4 days of the war. I could not believe the amount of jingoism and cries of "we're whooping their ass" that went on. There were street parades as navy and airforce personnel were preparing to leave - I didn't get the impression at all that anyone was scared. To me it sounded like one big party where the yanks were going to put these Arab upstarts back in their box and teach them a lesson.

If I can read between the lines a little, I think what 2kturkey may have been getting at is, That some were rejoicing and enjoying the bombing in Bahgdad. While I'm sure it was a small few, I've seen a lot of threads which I have not commented on, but the gist was "I saw the Palistines partying in the streets, Lets kill em all", If TV showed Americans doing the same thing, Would they feel the same way? You bet, But remember this is a small percentage. The only video I have seen totaled maybe 50 people. Obviously I can't speak for a country and only myself. I just think level heads should prevail. It is really easy to belive that you are the center of the universe. Others in different countries believe the same thing. I feel for the plight of the Palastines in the fact they were forcefully removed from thier land. Similar to what happened in my own home country of Macedonia. HOWEVER!, don't take this as a sympathic post regarding the issue, The people involved..at any level should be brought to justice, or killed I don't care which, but keep in mind, that there are struggles thru out the world.
