Default driving from SoCal to Dallas

the family is taking a road trip to Dallas from Socal. i'm looking to visit a few places and wonder if anyone's done a leisurely drive, where to stop, etc.?

Could always visit the Grand Canyon. I think the eaisest route would be the South Rim. North Rim takes a while to get to and it's out of the way.

RT 66 might be interesting to take just for the historical aspect but it's a 2 lane road that's 55mph so I can see how it fell out of favor when the interstates were built. The Rt66 Museum in Barstow was interesting (deove Rt66 from Barstow to Victorville in Sept.).

Stop in Vegas and say hi to Ryan and the Vegas S2K folks. Great people. They took me for a drive when I was out there last month.

I've always wanted to go to Phoenix, didn't make it on my last trip out west. Sedona, AZ is supposed to be a haven for artists.

That's all I can think of. Haven't been to too many places out west.

Buy a Hummer H1. Head due east. Don't stop for anything. Including rivers, mountains, large bodies of water, or traffic.

Take pictures.

It'll be the most interesting vacation ever.

I did a Dallas -> San Francisco -> Dallas trip a while back.

Attractions I stopped at included:
- Petrified Forest National Park (includes the Painted Desert)
- Meteor Crater (AZ - I40 exit 233)
- Sedona and Red Rock State Park
- Grand Canyon
- Las Vegas / Hoover Dam
- Death Valley National Park
- Yosemite National Park
