Drunk Driving
Had a conversation with a guy at work yesterday.
We all know that you lose one beer or drink per hour but how many drinks does it take an average 200 pound guy to get to the legal limit of .10 or .08 (in some states).
i thought you stop by a bar after work down two beers over an hour, lose one over time and hit the streets with one in your system. you get pulled over for running over a cat accidently and blow something like a .04???
Same situation downing 3 beers over the same hour, lose one over time and blow a .08??
but i'm just guessing.

once drank 3 beers in an hour (crappy light beer, mind you... miller or bud), then took 20 minutes off to let it settle/absorb
took breathalyzer (non police issue but still)
.07
i weighed ~150 lbs
At 200 lbs, 3 beers in an hour is probably safe

When I worked at Budweiser, we tried to figure this out. We all got tired of guessing that we were okay to drive, so management bought us all portable breathalyzer machines. Of course, we had to try it out.
Without any formal testing environments or controlled situations, we found that on average 2 beers on a normal stomach in an hour would put us at JUST below the legal limit (.08 in Washington).
There are a lot of controlled circumstances that factor into how fast you get to the legal limit...every one is different.

2-3 is the general rule. In states where .08 is the limit, two beers can put you over. Of course, most drunk drivers involved in accidents have BACs closer to .20, usually well above legal limits.

You can buy one online... I had one I bought off ebay cost me close to $100... was a fun thing to have at parties... the one thing to realize about breathalizers the more recently you've had a drink the higher you register... even if your bac isn't really that high. ie: we would make a game to drink a sh!t ton and blow right after to see who could get the highest. We got it up to over .30.... whicch is obviously not accurate.. at that point you would be dead or atleast comatose.

As to be expected with crazy pilot dudes, it had the opposite effect on minimizing alcohol intake, and started a longstanding competition to get the high-score.
My dad bought me one a couple years back because he thought I was drinking too much. We also started a competition until the unit stopped working
