Dumb question about Bed & Breakfasts
Ok, so what's the difference between a bed & breakfast and a motel/hotel? <insert joke punchline here>
My understanding is that at a bed & breakfast, you essentially stay in someone's home with a number of other guests. The person who owns the home is your host and serves breakfast, you eat and chat with other guests, etc.
Is that about right? Just curious because I've never stayed in one and am currently planning a vacation around my antisocial tendencies.

You are pretty close to right on. If your are going the B&B route, try to get a room with a private bath. You pay extra for the charm in a B&B, typically in old Victorian homes.
Meals range from simple continental to elaborate breakfasts.
One of the best places I ever stayed was in a B&B in Pacific Grove. It was right on the ocean, with the second floor balcony overlooking the water.

I think I'm actually going to skip the B&B and opt for a hotel. I don't really like talking to people I don't know (in person, anyway) unless I've been drinking. So unless there's an open bar at the breakfast table, I'm going to feel uncomfortable...
Hell, I don't even really like greeting the hotel staff. But for brief encounters like those, I can survive without too much trauma. Sitting around a table dining with strangers would probably leave me close to incapicitated, though.
