Ive exploded quite a few of those aluminum foil/the works bombs and I can say they definetly have enough power to destroy some stuff. I remember putting one in a tackle box and closing it. It blew the top off, straight up about 20 ft and desintegrated the bottom. The metal hinge pins were bent at 90 degree angles wich I could not bend back even with tools. The loudest one I ever did was a crisco oil bottle that swelled to beach ball size before it blew. I was about 75 yards away and it blast wave felt like someone smacked me in the chest. My little bro who knew what we were out doing said that he heard it go off and he was about 1.5 plus miles away.
The destructive power is increased when the pressure is contained in a small area. Being in the kids open hand, I really dont think he would have lost his hand either. I can say that I witnessed a few mailboxes lose their lives to such devices. (big time stupid and Im not at all proud of) They are powerful!
