On June 6th, I asked several people why this date was historically important. Noboby knew...
Well, it is close to the equinox so it is one of the longest days. Perhaps it is the longest day?
[/quote]

Yesterday was the longest day. The Summer Solstice (not Equinox) was 10:16 AM PDT, 1:16 EDT yesterday.

Pat Buchanan Pat Buchanan – ...

Given an excerpt from the Supreme Court's 1954 decision Brown v. Board of Education — "We conclude that in the field of pubic education, separate but equal has no place, separate education facilities are inherently unequal" — and asked what social problem the court was seeking to correct, 2 percent of high school seniors answered "segregation."

As these were multiple-choice questions, notes Diane Ravitch, the education historian, the answer "was right in front of them."
...
I don't get it. 2% of respondents answered a multiple choice question correctly? Did that question have 50 choices.
If monkey takes a multiple choice test, it still has 25% of getting the answer right.

planet of the apes???
I don't know where they got that. I can't even find that question on the rest. A similar question was on the 2006 test, and according to the NCES site, 60.45% of high school seniors chose the correct answer.

what angers me the most about your statement is the amount of extra tax funding that goes to pay for exactly what you are complaining about. Teachers, bus drivers, fuel, etc......

"no child left behind" is retarded. Some kids are just plain smarter than others. We should be nurturing those students, not spending money to bring up the kids who dont care/arent studying/low intelligence. This whole "all students need to go to college" is really dumb in my opinion.

just my 2 cents, being annoyed at all my tax $ being spent on a kid whos going to skip out on classes to go do drugs/drink.

So, you think that Doctors (M.D.s) and Lawyers are retarded too. The biggest beneficiary of NCLB is ETS. ETS is a PRIVATE, FOR PROFIT, company that gives us the necessary quantitative analysis we need to ascertain the intellectual worth of one person over another. The tests that ETS provides are not only the NCLB-related tests, but also the MCAT and the LSAC. If you are against NCLB, then you're against ETS, as well as the aforementioned tests.. If you're against ETS, then you believe that it is the government's job to test students, doctors, and lawyers. You sir, are a Communist.

Some kids are just plain smarter than others.
Well, if you weren't so against NCLB, you'd know this in an absolute and analytical fashion. Instead, you are using hearsay and conjecture to arrive at this conclusion. So, not only are you a Communist, you're arbitrary and totalitarian. Combine this with no regards to modern health care (since you eschewed the MCAT) and have no regards for the Rule of Law (since you eschewed the LSAC), you make Premier Stalin look like a pantywaist.

We should be nurturing those students, not spending money to bring up the kids who dont care/arent studying/low intelligence.
Wait, so we should be spending time nurturing a certain type of student while removing their monetary worth? This is a two-fold Commie attack; 1.) you're assigning a humanistic worth beyond their pre-ordained (by God) status, and 2.) you're devaluing the expenditures attached to this endeavor. In doing so, you're trying to tell me that there is some sense of a "real" worth than that assigned by supply and demand. Christ Almighty, if that isn't from The Manifesto, then I don't know what is.

This whole "all students need to go to college" is really dumb in my opinion.
Of course not; Heaven forbid that critical analysis of The Revolution and the subsequent seizure of The Means of Production be held by anyone except The Proletariat. FFS. . . access to Bourgeois materials, like Kant or Descartes might lead to thinking outside of the greater good.

Yes, heaven forbid that expenditures on such Bourgeois vices like alcohol and narcotics might lead to mental state outside of The Real as dictated by The Party.

It's people like you that hamper potential new markets for our economy. What a Commie swine.

If you're a bit unclear about what I'm talking about, you might want to start here.

test scores are improving, but that is because all the schools do now a days is prepare the students for these damn tests. It's not to make the kids more intelligent, but only so the states give them more funding. Kids today are idiots, have one count your change back to you, bet you that they can't.

If you want to see where this country is heading, watch the movie Idocracy...
