btw, why is it that whenever someone makes a DVDR thread, they always stress that they are planning on backing up thier DVDs?? how come people never state in their thread that they plan on joining netflix and want to copy each and every single DVD that they receive in the mail??
hey hey now...society isn't ready to accept such frankness "backing up" is the socially acceptable proxy for "pirating like a mother"

go to www.newegg.com to get one, dual or single layer. And again I recommend Lite-On or NEC, all your getting for the extra money with the Sony is the Sony name.

Lite-On 16x+R, 4xRW, 8x-R Duallie- $61.00 with Nero 6, Power DVD 5 (Retail )

Sony 16x+R, 4xRW, 8x-R Duallie- $86.99 with Retrospect Express (Retail, OEM without software is 60.99)

Seriously, at least get it from NewEgg so you can save some scratch, and maybe get more software free, and some blanks for free (usually 8)
newegg rules! Just got a photoprinter from them.

Hey guys ,will X Copy Platinum ( the banned good version)work with a dual layer dvd burner ? Some of the movies that I BURN FROM NETFLIX sometimes skip a little.

Lastly have any of you who return your Net Flix movies the same day you get them , notice that they seem to slow down your deliveries if you return them too quick, bastards ?

that's why i do the blockbuster movie pass thing. i return 2 and leave with 2 new ones instantaneously. the first month i did it, i checked out around 80 dvds, give or take, and all for $14.99. the crappy thing about blockbuster is that they do not have the selection that netflix has...

the dual layer burners i'm looking at are no name brands EMPREX and ARTEC. if these are not worth my time i guess i'll go with the new Sony dual layer. but if dual layer is in its early stages for consumers, shouldn't i wait for faster dual layer writers and just buy a name brand single layer burner for now?
Whoa, be carefull. My Sony DRU-540a is a rebadge Oporited DD1203. I've got some problems burning with cheaper meida (TDK). I have to use the expensive Taiyo Yuden media. Altough they are expensive I recommend them regardless to what burner you have.

Ninethreesevenelevenfortytwo HUT HUT! is right about NEC and Lite-On. Stick with those two brands.

If you want some Tayio Yuden media and a Lite-On burner goto www.rima.com.

ok so now that i know what burners to get, how much ram do i need. not bare minimum. i mean kick ass get the best out of my pc ram. i've already got 256mb in one slot and the other is empty at present time. the max for my board is 2Gigs. with my current set up everything runs very fast. from a cold boot everything is running in just under a minute.

256 megs of RAM should be fine. When burning a disc the information is being sent form the hard drive directly to the burner. It doesn't go to the RAM.

Large amouts of Ram is useful when gaming and editing media.
