Default DVD Copies

Hey All,

I just bought a DVD burner (Sony DRU 510) and was wondering what it takes to make backup copies of the DVD movies I've purchased over the years.

Is it pretty straight forward, like backing up a CD? Or does the CSS prevent just burning a duplicate?

All links accepted, all comments welcome -

Cheers -

Get a program called DVD Shrink. When I used DVDXCOPY before, it would put a disclaimer at the front of my DVD's saying "blah blah blah DVDXCOPY;" who want's that? With DVD Shrink you can re-author DVD's to make them smaller or choose specific streams to rip (audio, video, subtitles, etc.). Search Google or go to doom9.net; you shouldn't have any troubles finding it.

It really depends on the DVDs that you are trying to copy. If the discs are single layer DVD-5 (4.3 GB capacity) discs, then you can make a straight up copy using a tool called DVD Decrypter. If they are dual layer DVD-9 discs (greater than 4.3 GB capacity) it becomes exponentially more difficult to make a copy. It usually involves removing some of the features from the DVD and/or reencoding the video content of the disc at a lower bitrate. I successfully did it once for the movie A Clockwork Orange, but man, it was a bitch and three quarters. I was too lazy to ever try it again, but with some practive it probably becomes a piece of cake.

You can read all about DVD backup including methods and programs to use under the Guides/DVD section at http://www.doom9.org. There is a wealth of knowledge and resources on that page.

DVDXCOPY Express - Put a DVD in a DVD reader drive and a blank DVD in a writer drive and click start.

An hour or so later the DVD is backed up

There are cracks available on the web for the latest version of the software.
