E46 vs M3 - Real #'s from Road & Track finally
It appears in the Annual issue of R&T 2001 Sports & GT cars. They have a test of what appears to be a European model, which is only 7HP up on the USA model, so...
S2000 E46M3
0-60 5.5 4.7
0-100 ~14.2 11.9 (mag has typo)

Where are the lateral numbers. One thing I did to compare numbers with my boss was to pull down numbers for his M5 V.s the S2000. I jumped on Motor Trend. While the M5 stomps the S2000 in a quarter (13.2) look at these fugures:
60 to 0 braking
S2000: 110 feet
M5: 117 feet
Lateral G'
S2000: .95
M5 : .87
Slolum Speed (mph)
S2000: 71.? MPH
M5 : 65 MPH
It would appear the S2000 while spanked on the drag strip spanks on the slalom by quite a few car lengths. I

Those are some incredible numbers. It will be interesting to see what people pull with the car as owners get more real world data, you know, fast guys like Sev. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about 13 flat 1/4 mile times.
I will buy one. I'm presently thinking I would wait a year to see if there are any more whispers about bringing out a sedan version.

Scot, I know you love the new M3...it's definitely an impressive motorcar. But while we are at it, why don't we do a comparo on the 360 Modena, Nissan Xterra and Buick Century? That could reveal some VERY interesting numbers!

Hmmm. I've seen Toyota Supra turbo's, Corvettes, RX7's, 911's, NSX's, all compared to the s2000. Even Vipers. I don't recall anyone getting their panties in a bunch over any of those comparisons.
The common thread is that they are high performance, balls to the wall enthusiast's cars.
Doesn't the M3 fall into this category, both in its current state and the E46 state? Or rather, can we only talk of ragtops? If the latter is the case, is it OK to talk of such things when the M3 convertible is released?

All right..... all i was doing was showing the real numbers for acceleration. About a month ago, everyone was saying how the M3 would barely beat the S2000 in a dragrace... well... although not what either car was made for, the M3 kicks arse!
I would imagine the flickability to be on the S2000's side (600lbs less to flick)!
For my sequeal, a Ford Festiva (with a Sho engine in the rear seat) vs the S2000!
