Default Economy Status

I was curious to our status here in America when it comes to all the talk about the ecomomy being so bad? I still see that toys and pleasure events are sold out in every avenue. What I mean is that, for example, new expensive smart phones are always sold out lately and massage houses are always over booked. IMO these are not necessities and if we are supposedly hurting right now, wouldnt these be the last things wed spend money on? And also, I thought hummers were phased out and now lastnight I seen ads on tv for 2009 hummers, wtf?!

No wonder the rest of the world hates us.

Thoughs and opinions plz ^^

agree. this "depression" is more like a down turn. people are just spending less on the extravagant stuff.
still buying new shoes. just not new cars.

. . . still buying new shoes.
There was a story on NPR a couple of days ago about how well cobblers do in a down economy. New pair of stilettos: $150. New heels on the old pair of stilettos: $15.

I've been talking to my dad a lot about this lately.

the 70s were worse by far. unemployment was twice as bad, the inflation rate was terrible, add to it the gas crisis and a couple lousy presidents.

the thing that's bad about now is the potential it has to get a lot worse.

I think we're still in a recession and not depression yet.

Take a look at the rest of the worlds economy. Something I read recently said they cratered much sooner than we did and that much of their cratering caused issues over here.

That's definitely the case with the B loans and AIG

I don't know, but I'm at the edge of getting laid off. Sometimes, I think rather be those bums that get all the support, free housing and such.., What's the point of working, when you could lose it all!? Things doesn't look to good.., even 3rd world countries is going thru inflation!?

if i got laid off, i would join the marines. would have done it right after 9-11 but my brother needed a roomate and the rent i paid.
yes, i would be scared to fight in a war but i have too much dignity to be laying on my couch, unemployed and bitching about the economy.
i would much rather risk my health and well being to give back to the country that has given me plenty.
the more people stand around and wait for help to come, the worse it'll get.
i used to work at a fast food resturant and i hated it. but if i had to i would do it again. being unemployed is a feeling i don't ever want to feel again.
