Default Effective Public Speaking...

Hello all,

I'm currently talking a sophomore level effective public speaking class. In one week, I have to demonstrate something to the class. I'm searching for ideas, because I'd like something no one else will do. Most people are doing magic tricks, origami, etc. If you had 5-8 minutes to present something to a group of people, what would it be? I'm allowed props obviously, but they must be small in size, since I will have to carry them to class.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Matt.

I'm actually a Sophomore.

The only requirements are that it's between 5-8 minutes long. I'm being graded on whether or not I can actually present something, without freaking out and stuttering all over myself. So we can present anything from how to give a massage, to how to paint nails, to how to groom a cat. No holds barred really.

Thank you. I wanted to do something practical like teach the class how to do an oil change. But my car will not fit into the classroom, and I can't use powerpoint. So I'm stuck there. Everything I know how to do involves something large.

Pictures always work what i do is print out a picture like 8x11 and write anything i need on the back and hold it infront of you so the entire class can see the picture on the front and u can still read off the back if u forget!

I'd do magic.

But that's just me.

When I was in the sixth grade we had to present a current event every week. I found some great stories: Beatles breaking up, Charles Manson with dune buggies and machine guns, a man driving a 40-ton armored car into a gas station, popping the hatch, and saying, "Fill 'er up!" (he bought it at an MGM auction), a couple that had a bazillion amimals in their motorhome (I can only recall a sun bear and about 100 rats), and so on.

You could even do it as Will Rogers did: sit on a stool and read the paper to the class.

As in Alice's Restaurant: . . . twenty-seven 8x10 color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us.

Just go off on a rant about the things that you hate (your pet peeves), that worked for me and also got the class involved as well.

you have to chose for yourself. A good presentation comes from knowing what you're talking about. My little bro always bugs me with picking his topics. Just pick a topic you already know a lot about and are confident in sharing it with the class. This way your focus won't be on the information you're presenting, but rather how well you're presenting it.

Good luck!

Remember, schools a joke. It'll help with your presentation.
