Effective Public Speaking...
what about teaching the class to be a ninja or breakdancing?
demonstrait your skill at making up a project off the top of your head.
but its always good to do something that no one else will know so no one will know if u screw up..
i wouldnt cook anything..
what do u like to do?

I can do some magic tricks, none real interesting. Other then that I sit in the garage and turn wrenches in between school and work. I'd like to teach how to do an oil change, but I don't know how I could do it. I guess I better pick out the best origami animal. :-(.

Hello all,
I'm currently talking a sophomore level effective public speaking class. In one week, I have to demonstrate something to the class. I'm searching for ideas, because I'd like something no one else will do. Most people are doing magic tricks, origami, etc. If you had 5-8 minutes to present something to a group of people, what would it be? I'm allowed props obviously, but they must be small in size, since I will have to carry them to class.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Matt.

The best topics to demonstrate are the ones you are passionate about. This will make your presentation more lively, since you will be into it more and conveying your passion for it. For instance, why not talk about racing on a track? That can easily crack the 5-8 mark with little or no preparation, and simple props. Hell, perhaps you can take the class to the parking lot and demonstrate how to drift.
The best presentations are when the speaker has some passion about the subject and the audience comes away with something new. I remember being in a similar class and the presentor taught everyone how to whistle. She started with some simple charts explaining the actual mechanics of a whistle, explained different kinds of whistles (no fingers in mouth, two fingers in mouth) and used the last 3 minutes or so to actually teach everyone how to do it. About half actually figured it out but everyone was talking about that presentation for the rest of the semester.
