The End of the Prowler...
I'm a contract employee in IT at DCX and have followed the Prowler with interest since it's introduction in '97. Initial reviews of the concept model proved a market existed but the final execution of the car left a lot to be desired. It was underpowered (ok, 253 hp but it didn't seem like it), and tied to a futile attempt to give the impression of a manual gearbox with the autostick. I've driven them and they never impressed me. On top of the powertrain deficiencies they are awkward to drive as your left leg is forever cocked in an uncomfortable position. And the lack of trunk/storage space makes our S2000 look like a mini-van in comparison! I toured the plant where they build them and Chrysler really did try to do a quality job. Also there were a lot of 'experimental' ideas in the production car like the use of aluminum in the suspension. But to use 'experimental' and 'Chrysler' on a production car for sale to the public that costs 45K seems scary to me. Production totals for all model years will total approx. 11,000 cars so the low number insures future collectability.
