Default Ever been addicted to crack?

*this should make for one of the stranger off-topic posts*

My older sister admitted herself to a clinic last month for crack addiction. Strange world, never saw it coming.

Anyway 30 days in, she came out clean and visited us last weekend. She seemed to be doing okay. Today however I learned that she has disappeared -- not a good sign.

The rehab place she went to was a state run institution, probably not that good.

Does anyone know of a good clinic I can send her to? Cost is not important. What are her odds for success? What can I do?

Betty Ford. I have a friend who went there. It was expensive, but so far he's doing okay. His addiction was alcohol though.

Sorry to hear about your sister.

sorry to hear.
I think the only person who can help your sister is herself. Until she decided enough is enough, it's going to be very hard to help her.
Good luck though

2 doctors, 2 differant opinions, IMO, she lost the choice of whether she gets help or not, force the issue.. I had a girlfriend addicted to coke. It was one of the ugliest things I've ever seen when she started going down hill.

She didn't want help, I told her parents, and they practically locked her away for a year. She called me a couple years later thanking me, I just didn't want to see her end up dead.

Wait the amount of time you need to, file a missing persons report, once you find here don't take your eyes off her untill you can get her help.

To answer your question, only clinic I've heard of is Betty Ford, and that was probably on 90210 sorry

Sorry to hear this man, I have known a number of people on Heroin and its horrible to watch that spiral. Best of luck to you and your sister, I wish I could offer a suggestion for getting help but I do not have any experience with this.

I would recommend getting other family members involved.

I know a few people I can ask for recommendations and if I find anything worth pursuing, I'll PM you.

Good luck.

A family friend was addicted to crack a few years back. Sadly, the only way he got off the drug was to spend 18 mos. in jail for possession with intent to distribute (I think it was a second offense). He was given the choice to: 1. Spend 3-4 months in jail + rehab and parole, or 2. serve the full sentence of 18 months in jail. He chose jail, knowing that rehab probably wouldn't work, so he'd violate his parole by using again, and end up in jail for like 5 years (he tried rehab once before). Instead, he just kept himself "out of circulation" for a year and a half. . . nothing like forcing yourself clean by spending time in the clink. Anyway, he's been out for about 6 months now and has been clean since. Anyway, people can clean up under the right circumstances, so there's hope for your sister.

Good luck getting help for your sister. Hopefully it doesn't come down to jail time, and rehab works instead. Also, I hope you find her quickly and in good health.

Steve really sorry to hear about this, drugs can stike down anyone. And for those that dont know you only have to smoke crack 3 or 4 times to become physically addicted. Its that bad.

As for rehab, I have to tip my hat to Betty Ford. I searched and searched for you, and found that the majority of celebrities (read the people with unlimited funds) seem to choose Betty Ford more than any other. I wish you and your family all the luck in the world.

www.sober.com has a listing of more than 25,000 facilities so you may be better suited with one closer to home, but again I dont know what the best type of treatment is for this particular addiction.
