Ah just let it slide this once. Had I been your server, I would have tried to mention it as politely as possible, given this kind of situation.

i say ... no hard feelings, just let it slide. she deserved the tip, and you meant to tip her. she understands you didn't mean to stiff her, and you paid up at that point, so it's all good. if anything, she's probably a little embarrassed about the whole thing too. sometimes, it's not worth sweating the details ... enjoy your thai meals there, even if she is your waitress. I would be very angry if someone confronted me about the tip, especially after she saw you mark 0 dollars on the reciept. If you left it blank and she reminded you, it would have made sense.

If it were me, I don't think I could bear to go back.

I thought your wife was supposed to leave the tip, if I read it correctly? Not trying to cause trouble, I just want to understand what happened.

Reminds me of one time. I went to a friend of a friends bday (an aquaitance i knew from High School). Anyway i actually didn't eat anything and just had water. Didn't need to fork any $$ over.

Well can you beleive we left and these people did not leave a tip! There was about 10 of us... everyone had drinks & ate minus myself. The waiter treated them really good and all considering it was her bday. THEY LEFT NO TIP! I was mortified when the waiter basically came after us pointing out that they left NO TIP.

I honestly didn't feel it was right they did that... i walked away while the waiter had it out with them.. and they STILL didn't give him a tip!

I understand that's how they make their living.. tips! Sometimes resturants don't even pay them well! Not saying you did it on purpose but i also understand where she's coming from....

My wife and I have been eating at the same Thai restaurant for about 2-3 years. The food is the best in town (we've tried all the thai places) and the service has always been outstanding.

I consider myself a good tipper as I always tip a little extra for good service. Since eating at this restaurant I usually tip 15-20%.

On my last visit when I received the check I realized I only had $5-$6 in cash. I stood up with the bill and told my wife to please leave the tip. I walked over to the register while my wife proceeded outside to the car and paid the bill with a CC. When I signed the slip I put $0 on the tip portion of the sales slip and signed only for the total of the meal knowing that my wife was tipping cash.

I handed the sales slip back to the waitress that always serves us (she's native Thai and has an cute accent) and motion to the door. As I was about to leave I saw a perplexed look on her face after she looked at the sales slip. She frantically scanned the table we were sitting at which was only a few feet away...and as I looked at her one more time before leaving she says in her cute Thai accent...."Excuse me sir........You forgot your tip...." I was stunned!... My wife apparently didn't hear me as I stood up. My immediate reaction was that I was embarassed and quickly explained what happened and gave her my remaining cash for her tip. She was happy....and I went on my way.

The more I discussed what happened with my wife....the more I got irritated about the whole incident. Even if I accidently forgot to tip.....why would the kind Thai waitress feel the need to basically confront me by reminding me I forgot my tip?

I have since let the incident go....and I still plan to eat there when my next craving for Thai food comes around. (The food is THAT good). But I have to admit....I entertained the idea of NEVER eating there again.

What are your thoughts?

Tim
One bad experience in 2-3 years...blow it off. You can probably come up with better stuff to worry about.

BTW, I worked for tips in college, and your 15-20% is standard. Consider yourself an AVERAGE tipper.

reminds me of that belushi SNL skit

I feel self concious sometimes when I leave cash on the table and have to write 0 in the tip section of the receipt if I pay at the counter or something so instead of 0 I write "cash." That way you don't get a funny look from the cashier wondering why there's no tip.
