Thumbs up Exercising while consuming energy drinks

I was wondering how many people here consume energy drinks before exercising? I'll usually drink a redbull everyday and then go jog a few miles and/or lift weights for about an hour. I've been doing this for about a year now and I've never had any medical complications, but the other night a friend told me it could potentially stop your heart because of the high amount of caffine? I googled and came up with this...

Why would you need caffeine to wake you up while you're running?

Take protein to lift weights and add muscle, or carbs for energy if you're doing a sustained burn (5k, marathon, etc). Energy drinks have a lot of caffeine and sugar. You don't take caffeine for working out as its a stimulant but also a diuretic and blocks creatine. Sugar is short term energy.

That's good info. I usually drink the Muscle Milks with 25g of protein and eat a banana during workouts. I got used to drinking red bulls to to stay up and work all night and eventually they got mixed into my workout routine. They really do seem to help with transitioning from workout to workout, but like you said, sugar is short term energy. I guess I'll probably stop drinking them.

You should be having the protein supplements after the workout because it helps to rebuild the muscles after you have been worked them out.
