We had a 98 Maxima when we were doing rear facing seats and it worked great. The decent sized back seat helped.
Around the time we switched to front facing seats we had a Mini Cooper, and that was manageable. It depends on what you want to put up with.

For one kid any vehicle will do but things to think about are rear ventilation (make sure you can get adequate cooling/heating to the child in a carseat in the rear). It also helps to have a wagon/suv/van to have flat floorspace in which to do emergency diaper changes, feedings, clothing changes.
I love our minivan. It's made life so much easier.

I'll agree though, no kids here but my buddy just had twins and sold his Saab for an Ody, I gave him all kinds of hell until I spent a week with them and had to help load the kids up and stuff. 1000X easier for everything. I'd never drive one myself but I hope I have a wife that is down to drive one if I ever have kids.

When we just had the one kid, the wife had a Forester XT. Plenty of room for our stuff and ALL the stuff that we thought we needed for Son #1.
Now that we have three (ages 5, 3 and 2), we've moved on to an Odyssey. The Touring model is awesome, and my wife (who previously wouldn't be caught dead in anything remotely resembling a minivan) positively adores it.
Not to mention the newest one's got a whopper of a rear entertainment system and lots of cupholders. Wife drives, husband drinks beer and plays PS3 in back

I'm not going to go through 2 pages of answers but F the SUV! I'll bet you could buy a brand-new WRX 4 door (not the hatchback) and the kid will fit in the backseat for at least the next 5 yrs, probably more. Might also want to consider the Lancer Rally Art.
I wouldn't go w/ the Genesis coupe because there isn't much room in the back seat as it is so there won't be much for him to grow into. Maybe the Genesis sedan though. They're close to the same price I think.
