i didn't put a lot of thought into those calculations, obviously. but you get the idea... you'd still have a decent amount of money to play around with. and yea, sixers makes a good point that responsibilities & money go hand-in-hand, but maybe that's exactly the mistake that people are making. we burden ourselves financially because we think these things we're buying will make us happy, when maybe living simply/modestly is actually the way to live a truly happy existence.
i think i make $26,000/year.... definitely no more than $29,000, and no offense, but my life is probably way more kick-ass than all you tightasses making 4-5 times the amount of money i make.
but of course, i think this thread was referring to YOUR personal idea of what a "fantasy" life would be like. just seems like maybe you guys should loosen up a little... ? sometimes i feel like i'm too uptight for my age, but you guys make me feel like i'm stella getting my groove back.

i would roll the biggest blunt this world has ever seen and then buy a mickeys forty to accompny it. after that i would fly to san diego and get a carnitas platter at my favorite mexican joint. i would then contruct a giant vertical rotisserie full of al pastor meat in my kitchen and make tacos whenever i felt the urge. the tacos would be eaten in my hot tub in santa cruz, ca. after, eating a bunch of tacos i would hop on my hobbie cat and sail to san francisco and chill in the bay and drink samosas all day long. and then catch the first flight to ibiza aka heaven on earth.
^Agree 100%
most of the stuff u guys talk about can be had with a little bit of planning and renting. owning everything WOULD cost a lot, but it's kinda like owning movies. watch it once, why keep it sitting on the shelf.
to get a little off topic, i never understood why people who complain about money have so many kids. each kid is like buying a house, not to mention that research shows that your enjoyment level decreases with each additional kid.

then why are you going to college and bettering yourself to hopefully, i'm presuming, one day get a better paying job?? why not continue to live the way you do for the rest of your life and just work part time to make your $26K a year and continue your "kick a$$" life?? once you graduate and begin your career, you'll find that eventually, you too, will become burdened with more responsibilities and have a lot less time on your hands than you would like. we are not being uptight here. instead we are just being realistic about life after college and how your needs and wants will also mature as you mature as a person. eating $5 meals and living in 1 bedroom apartments with a roommate does not satisfy me today, although when i was in college, i was more than happy with those conditions.
college years really are the best years of your life. its all down hill from there.
way to ruin the fantasy thread with talk of responsiblilty, maturity, and worst of all bringing in reality.

seriously. i'm fairly materialistic, i'll admit, and i definitely want to have "nice things" in my lifetime, even if that means i'm obligating myself to them. i think i actually posted a thread about this once... so with that said, that last post was mostly joking... and also me just wondering if maybe i'm wrong to want to own a ferrari when i can look back on my life and see that the times i was happiest were the times when i had the least amount of responsibility (...and no money.)
BUT... i will say that NO, you're not exactly being REALISTIC... and YES, you are being UPTIGHT, if you honestly think you can't live comfortably unemployed on $100,000/year. living off of $100,000/year doesn't mean you'll be eating $5 fast food specials everyday, riding the bus, and living in a 1 bdrm apt. not even close.
but i'm going to stop right now because i seem to get myself in trouble with my big mouth / opinions on this site...
seriously, stop attacking her. just talk. it's funny how the 20 yr old and the sick bastard, Scot are the voices of reason here.
when people say "mature" i can't help but think that's another word for boring and crotchety. sounds like you've lost your spirit of adventure. when people get older, they dont have to have tons of responsibility. they choose it. take on a big mortgage, have a couple kids, send em to stupid private school, etc. those are all choices and bad ones, imo. staying in nice hotels and drink expensive poison sounds nice, but it's like ur using it make u feel temporarily better about an otherwise sucky life.
so if you please, let's get back to how people would like to spend time if they didn't need to work.

secondly, if you really feel college is the best years of your life, then i feel sorry for you.
thirdly, if you don't enjoy the career that you choose to go into, then i feel sorry for you again. sure i understand some people do not choose to go into the careers they end up in, and i can understand how they are unhappy with work.

first of all, this thread is not "ruined". i believe, we are generating a healthy discussion here. besides, i was merely responding to what the person i quoted said, and i don't think my response was in any way inappropriate as a response to what she said. besides, dyhappy's thread always somehow become quasi serious bitter discussions, so this really isn't deviating from the norm.
