We have a favorite movie thread. How about a favorite book and or author?
I'll start off with a couple of my favorites.
1)Anything Steinbeck. "Grapes of Wrath", "Of Mice and Men," "Tortilla Flats," "East Of Eden," "Cannery Row,"
2)Stephen King. "The Green Mile"
3)Jean Auel. "Clan Of The Cave Bear," "Valley Of The Horses," "The Plains Of Passage," "The Mammoth Hunter."
4)James Redfield "The Celestine Propehecies"

You didn't mention my favorite Steinbeck novel: "In Dubious Battle."

My favorite book is "Close Quarters" by Larry Heinemann.

Well, I'm a huge Tom Clancy fan without any outstanding favorite book of his - I thoroughly enjoyed "Without Remorse" and "The Sum of All Fears" especially, but I like all of his books. Stephen Hunter is absolutely fabulous, especially the first book of his that I read, "A Time To Hunt".

Outside of that, I actually enjoy a lot of historical fiction by Brock & Bodie Thoene (most of it related to the world wars and the fight of Israel for independence).

Aside from that, I enjoy a few Jack Higgins books now and again, plus I'm a big fan of Robert Ludlum (what a fabulous author - amazing). The "Bourne" series especially are great, though I must admit that his comedic books ("The Road to Gandolfo" and "The Road to Omaha") are incredibly funny.

Aside from that, Douglas Adams offers some of the best off-the-wall writing I've ever read - I am constantly snorting with laughter when reading his books (not bad in itself, except I'm often in class while doing so).

I've been reading since I was four and been raised without a television so I will read (or have read) almost anything except fantasy and sci-fi of the Star Trek genre...
